Inspiration

My work naturally gravitates toward more rational, Modernist design principles. I am very much inspired by the work of rational designers such as Massimo Vignelli and Reid Miles. Yet, I found when I talk about graphic design to others these are not the names that elicit the most excitement from me. Graphic Designers like Chris Ashworth, Dave McKean, and Vaughan Oliver, who champion more expressive visuals. It felt like there was a schism to my work that needed to be filled.

Scope

Post 30 was my vehicle for exploring the more expressive, experimental side of graphic design and Typography. The idea was to create one poster a day in my spare time. The subject could be based on anything, but I must create them quickly and in a way that I wouldn’t normally do. Go back and look on ways to improve the work and refine, which could be complete recreations with a new direction. Pile the second round up, and repeat for a third. Do this until you have thirty designs designed toward a Post-modernist aesthetic.

Editorial Design

I have always been fascinated with true stories of government espionage, techniques in tradecraft and modern U.S. military surveillance capabilities. This particular subject has always seemed to endlessly captivate me. This project, The System, was created with the love of this subject in mind and was directly inspired by Laura Poitras’s 2014 documentary, Citizen Four, which was based on NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden. It covers a wide array publicly known surveillance programs exposed in the wake of the Snowden leaks.
